Immigrants Need Not Fear Daca / Dapa Immigration Reform.

By Geetha_CML

Here is a great article about how immigrants are being urged not to fear applying for the new DACA or DAPA programs. United States Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) director Leon Rodriguez is giving public speeches to tell people they should not fear. Rodriguez says when someone applies for the new DACA program (which starts February 20, 2015) or when someone applies for the new DAPA program (which starts May 20, 2015) that NONE of the applicants information is shared with law enforcement unless they pose a national security threat or have a disqualifying criminal history. Yes this is true but for unknowing applicants, this could be a big “unless.” Even if the director of USCIS promises this, you really need to see a lawyer and find out if you may fit into this category. Another question that many undocumented immigrants might have is, “What if a republican president is elected into office and undoes Obama’s immigration reform?” This is definitely an understandable concern, especially because the house and the senate are now controlled by anti-immigrant republicans, but the reality is that every president that has inherited an immigration reform (such as this one from Barack Obama) has in the past never reversed the policy. It is just too politically risky. There are over 5 million people who will directly benefit from this as well as the many millions of family members of these people. These family members all have a vote and all have a strong reason to turn on their representative and the party who would even consider a mass deportation. So don’t worry about participating, this is a huge political win for the left. The right is just jealous that the left has moved to first lay claim to this obvious humanitarian agenda. But don’t be careless. If you have the smallest chance of falling into the group that is categorized as having a “disqualifying criminal history” or as being a “threat to national security,” find an attorney to help.
