Undocumented Immigrants Get Id Cards In Nyc

By Geetha_CML

Regardless of immigration Status Mayor Bill de Blasio has implemented a new plan to offer ID cards to everyone. This is a great program for everyone who is here in NYC, even if you are completely undocumented. There are other states around the country who are offering a similar program thanks to the ripple effects of the 2012 and the 2014 deferred action immigration reforms that were introduced by Barack Obama. Los Angeles has gone so far as to offer driver licenses to undocumented people. New York City has not gone that far as to offer illegal immigrants drivers licenses, but this new program comes with lots of benefits that many people previously couldn’t obtain. For instance, many undocumented immigrants are taken advantage of at their jobs (especially in the restaurant industry) and until now undocumented people could not defend themselves from these heartless restaurant managers because it has been impossible to enter a court building. After applying for this program and obtaining an ID card, immigrants now enter a court building and can find protection. Another benefit to having an ID card is that if an undocumented immigrant is ever stopped by a police officer and has no ID card, up until now the officer would just arrest the immigrant. Now the officer can simply right a ticket or give a summons. This alone can save a person from deportation. Another great benefit of signing up for this New York Identification Program is that you can enter government buildings such as the library and even get a library card. Lastly, to encourage people to sign up there are several great discounts to places like the zoo and art galleries all over this great city. For a full list of benefits check out the NYC ID site
